The reboot of Mortal Kombat has been given an official UK release date of April 18th.
Indeed, publisher Warner Bros has dubbed the date “Mortal Monday”, and the game will be coming out at midnight for keen fans to snag and stay up all night playing.
Available for both the PS3 and Xbox 360, developer NetherRealm Studios has billed the game “a triumphant return to its violent roots in the fastest and most brutal instalment to date.”
More detailed and horrible fatalities are promised, with a sophisticated new graphics engine to provide blood and guts aplenty. The game has reverted to its classic 2D view, however, offering up to four player tag-team fighting.
A co-op arcade mode is also on the cards, and a “deep story mode”, although beat-’em-ups always claim their stories are wonderfully rich when in the end it’s all about some unstable bloke getting mad with some other unstable bloke and punching him. A lot.
Although apparently the plot involves time travel and going back to the original Mortal Kombat tournament to try and change the future, so it does actually sound like more effort has been put into crafting the tale.
