    Default 3 red rings

My xbox 360 has recently started freezing and displaying 3 red rings.

Now it is only displaying 3 red rings and wont start up at all.

I dont think overheating is the problem as it was freezing after only a couple of minuets of gameplay, and its refusing to start now from cold.

Ive just taken it all apart and can't see anything.

So has anyone had any experiance with this? or anything to try?

    Many thanks.

    Welcome to the forums

Unfortunately that sounds like an overheating GPU from the error you are being given and from the freezing. The only option you have as you've opened the console, is to try and fix it using the X Clamp fix.

Fixing the Red Ring of Death though is REALLY easy. It's literally a matter of taking the console apart, cleaning some thermal paste off, reapplying the thermal paste and replacing the X Clamps with bolts and washers. It cost me less than £2 to repair one. I purchased a kit from here: http://bit.ly/h5BhB7 and it included all the pieces I needed, printed instructions and links to walkthroughs on how to do everything. If your console is out of warranty and you don't want to pay someone to do it for you, it is well worth it. The hardest part I found when fixing the Xbox 360 was taking the case apart. Applying the actual fix itself is easy.

Thanks, but unfortunatly i slipped with a screwdriver whilst removing the x clamps and took out one of the tiny chips.

So im guessing that board is now ready for the bin.

I think i might take a risk with a RROD board off ebay.

Is there anything i need to know about fitting a different board, are they just plug and play?

Unfortunately it is not as simple as just switching out the board. The disc drive is tied to the motherboard. It would be cheaper to just buy a new console. You can pick up the old arcades from around £60 at Game with a 12 month warranty.
