    Default HDMI Switcher Problem

    Hi all,

I have an xbox 360 elite which I use a lot and have had no problems with (touch wood). I recently bought a PS3 and so decided to buy an HDMI switcher (TechLink Switch2 HD5110) so I dont have to keep swapping HDMI cables over.

Now, my problem is when I connected the Xbox and PS3 to the switcher the picture on the Xbox goes kinda grainy really bad and looks awful and the sound becomes patchy, also if I play a dvd in the Xbox the picture flickers with no sound. I've tried swapping cables over but nothing seems to work. The PS3 picture is perfect tho.

Is there anything I can do or have I just wasted 50 quid?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

    Welcome to the forums.

I take it that you don't have these issues with the 360 when you are using it plugged directly into the tv? What brand HDMI cables are you using in the switch?

    Regards,

    Ross

    Hi Ross,

Nope, no problem when it's plugged directly into the tv.

    I'm using Venom HDMI cables.

I'm starting to wonder if it could be a problem with the Switcher. I've tried googling to see if anyone else has had similar problems but found nothing. It's a proper head scratcher.

There's two potential causes of this:

    1) The HDMI cables are not shielded well enough, causing interference.
    2) The switch is faulty

Could you please unplug everything except you Xbox from the switch and just have your Xbox hooked up to your switch. Do you still have the issue? If you do, could you try a different HDMI cables to hook the 360 and switch to the tv (preferably a different brand of cable).

From what you've described, it sounds like interference, as HDMI is a digital signal, so it either works or it doesn't, there is no middle ground.

I've swapped the cables around, I've also used a Ross HDMI Cable and a Belkin one. Still no joy.

Whats bugging me is if it's the switcher, why isn't it affecting the PS3?, and if it's the cable or xbox then why doesn't it go all weird when the xbox is plugged directly into the tv?.

I think I'm going to take it back and exchange it, see if it'll work with another one.

But big thanks for your help Ross! Much appreciated )

I had a switch do a similar thing with my 360 and my Sony Blu-Ray Player. I would get interference and all of a sudden it would change input. Turned out the switch was underpowered and the amazon basics HDMI cables were not shielded well enough to be used on a switch. I replaced the HDMI cabled with NEET cables and the switch with a NEET switch and it works flawlessly.
