    Hi Daz,

    Welcome to the forums.

    Try this:

    1. Clear your Xbox 360 hard drives cache (Instructions here: How to clear the Xbox 360 console system cache)
    2. Turn your xbox off and then on again
    3. Press the sync button on your Xbox 360
    4. Press the sync button on your Steering Wheel

If this doesn't work, it may be a faulty wheel.

It definitely sounds like it, as mine synced nearly instantly.

I googled the issue and the search came up with nothing, so I am assuming it is a very very rare problem.

Microsoft's repair process is pretty good. I've had 7 Xbox 360's since launch day in 2005 and each one got sent off for repairs. The majority of them were received back within a week and the rest were back within 2 weeks tops. They used to also throw in a free 1 month XBL subscription for the inconvenience.

    Thats good to know.

They have sent me a shipping label, i take it i just got to attach that to the package and arrange with ups to collect...is it really as straight forward as that?

Yeah it's really that simple. I can't really fault Microsoft on their repair process.
